I’m a college student working towards a degree in creative writing. I write in a variety of topics but I focus on self improvement, relationships and politics.

The Short Story of Jimmy Misner Jr.

I’ll just start of by saying welcome! I’m glad you decided to spend even one iota of your time checking my profile out! I’ll stop wasting your time and get to the nitty gritty!

A Brief Summary (turns out it wasn’t so brief, lol)

I’m a 33 year old, white, straight male. I enjoy reading, spending way to much time on YouTube and playing video games. I’ve been a bit of a man child for a good long time, if we’re being honest, lol.

I’ve worked numerous entry level jobs throughout my life. Mostly fast food, having spent 10+ years doing that. I was actually able to climb up into…

If you do, you’ll never get started.

Many people have a talent or skill that they’re quite good at. They might know this but they won’t share it with the world at large. The problem is they’re too afraid of what will happen if they do. What if people don’t like them? What if they’re actually bad? What if they fail?

Let’s go through each of these fears one at a time and dissect them.

What if people don’t like you?

This is certainly a possibility. Your abilities aside, some people will simply not be fans. It could be any number of things and it could be different from each individual.

You know…

You are enough but that doesn’t mean their issues go away.

I’ve had several partners with severe mental health issues. Before I knew better, it often made me feel worthless when they would struggle. Why were they so sad? Aren’t I good enough? These would be the thoughts swirling through my head when they would inevitably sink into the pits of their depression. I imagine if you’ve had such a partner, such thoughts went through your head as well.

I don’t know why, maybe it’s movies and the like but we seem to think that love will magically fix their problems. There’s a problem with this mentality though. They had their…

It could be a lot more fair though, right?

Photo by Ferdinand studio on Unsplash

We live in a world that isn’t fair. Many would tell you that’s life and you need to deal with it. Thing is, some of us are trying to deal with it. Not by accepting it and working around it. By working to make things fair.

It’s easy for some to dismiss how unfair this world is. For some, it’s unfair in their favor. Others figured out how to navigate it. They worked around it and succeeded. Isn’t it sad that the second group seem the most adverse to making things fair?

You can see it when we talk about…

I have some advice that you might not be expecting.

Photo by Liza Pooor on Unsplash

The common advice for people is that we should strive to be ourselves. This advice is often told to us as we’re also being advised exactly how we should behave. If you want this job, to get the girl, or to be happy do xyz. Well… which is it?

Are we supposed to be striving to be ourselves or following rigid guidelines to get anything we want in life? It’s funny because people often tell you to be yourself but when that doesn’t work they immediately tell you what you were doing wrong. I’m sorry? I was being myself! …

If so, you may have aphantasia!

Photo by Adrien Olichon on Unsplash

Aphantasia is a really interesting disorder. It consists of either being unable to conjure mental images at all or having severe difficulty doing so. I found out about this because of some friends and realized something. I have aphantasia.

There’s a simple test to figure out if you have aphantasia. Close your eyes and try to visualize something. It’s often best to pick something your very familiar with. The question is, can you see it? If not or if you struggle to create the image, you might have aphantasia.

One of the interesting things about aphantasia is that it is…

Anxiety can have different affects on each individual who has it.

Photo by Joice Kelly on Unsplash

There are a lot of different things that can be a part of anxiety. Some may have a few, most or even all of those things. I most certainly have some of them but not all of them. Let’s talk about some of the things that anxiety can cause, shall we?

The first thing to remember when speaking about any illness, be it physical or mental, is that there’s almost never a “correct” way to be ill. Even when you have a specific disorder, there are often many issues that can go with it. …

My friends and I enjoy creating fantastical characters based on ourselves!

Photo by Stem List on Unsplash

Many adults think that daydreaming and playing make believe are for children. They’re too busy “adulting” to indulge in such childish things. I, on the other hand, very much disagree.

My friends and I enjoy creating interesting characters with super powers and the like. Often, they’re based on the idea that we ourselves gained certain abilities. We’re a bunch of geeks and we have a great time thinking up what we’d do with our powers!

We’re also a bunch of nerds, so of course we created rules for how we could go about it. No overpowered abilities like reality shifting…

We’ve all heard this but the question is, is it true?

Photo by Matt Botsford on Unsplash

I imagine we’ve all heard this before. The idea that if you die in your dreams, you die in real life. The answer is, of course you do! Eventually… of something else, lol. I’ve personally had numerous dreams where I died and I’m still here, so the real answer is no, you won’t die in real life because you died in your dream.

If I left it at that, this would be a really short article, so I’ll talk about what dying in your dreams can mean. …

It’s not nearly as important as you might gather from media.

Photo by Charles Deluvio on Unsplash

I’m gonna start of by oversharing just a touch. I’m a guy with a below average sized penis. It caused me plenty of issues throughout my life and I know that many other men are very concerned about their own size. I’m going to talk about how we need to stop worrying about it.

Let’s start off with my own experiences. I figured out pretty early that I wasn’t exactly big in the size department. My tummy yes, my penis, no, lol. This caused a lot of issues for me when it comes to the dating department.

I already have…
